Carpool Procedures

New Procedures For Dropping Off Students At McKinley
  • Morning Arrival
Students
     Students who are walking or riding a bike/scooter
·        Will stay on sidewalks and out of parking lots and roads
·        Will cross roads at designated crosswalks and if riding bike/scooter will dismount and walk at crosswalks
·        Will only ride outside of the pick-up/drop-off zone
·        Will place bikes/scooters inside bike racks so bikes/scooters are in an upright position
·        Will be either in the gym having breakfast or out on the playground unless principal determines it is an inside day
·        Will check in at office if arriving late or if they feel they have something that needs to be taken to a classroom
·        Will line up outside at their designated line location as soon as the bell rings and will wait until their teacher comes to take them to class
Students who are carpooling
·        Will only get out of vehicle when it is inside the pick-up/drop-off zone Please See the accompanying map
·        Will enter building through the front doors and go to breakfast or continue out through the gym to the playground
·        Will check in at office if arriving late or if they feel they have something that needs to be taken to a classroom
·        Will line up outside at their designated line location as soon as the bell rings and will wait until their teacher comes to take them to class
Students who ride a bus
·        Will enter playground area as soon as bus arrives
·        Will either be on playground or at breakfast
·        Will check in at office if they feel they have something that needs to be taken to a classroom
·        Will line up outside at their designated line location when bell rings and will wait until their teacher comes to take them to class
No students will be in a parking lot unless accompanied by an adult.
All students who need to use the restroom before school starts will use the ones located next to the gym.
All students who desire to eat breakfast must arrive before 8:15.
All Students participating in the ROAR/SOAR programs can check in with Mrs. Hess and then line up with their class.
Half Day Kindergarten students will follow all of the same rules as the other grades with the following exceptions:
·        Morning students will line up inside the school in the gym and should either be eating breakfast or sitting quietly in line until the bell rings.  Their teacher will come get them and take them to class.
·        Morning students will be in the carpool lane with a teacher when it is time for them to be picked up.  They are picked up inside the area marked by orange cones.
·        Morning bus students will be walked to their bus when class is over.
·        Afternoon students will line up outside the office in the hallway.
All Day Kindergarten students will follow all of the same rules as the other grades, but will line up inside the gym instead of outside.
Parents
·        Parents will follow the traffic flow pattern and approach the school from the east and exit to the west.
·        Parents who carpool their students to school will only allow students to exit vehicles when they are located inside the pick-up/drop-off zone so that students are exiting on the sidewalk side and never need to cross the road.
·        Parents can use parking lots for parking and coming into the school except during pick-up or drop off times.  Parents will always park outside of the pick-up drop-off zone no matter the reason for being at school, i.e. volunteering, assemblies, bringing something to the school etc.
·        Parents will remain in their vehicles so that traffic can continue to flow.
·        If a parent needs to exit a vehicle they will leave both the carpool lane and the pick-up/drop-off area before doing so.
Team members
·        Will be visible in carpool and bus areas to help ensure student safety.
·        Will be wearing an orange safety vest so that they are immediately recognizable.
·        Will enforce all arrival procedures in a fair and kind manner.





New Procedures For Picking Up Students At McKinley
Students
Students who are walking or riding a bike/scooter
·        Will follow a teacher to their designated exit
·        Will understand that the first three rules for arrival are also rules for leaving
·        Will quickly find siblings or companions at designated outside meeting spot and begin journey home
Students who are carpooling
·        Will follow a teacher to their designated exit
·        Will only get into a vehicle when it is inside the pick-up/drop-off zone
·        Will watch for parents in line and move to the appropriate spot to get into the vehicle quickly so that carpool can continue to move
·        Will stay on sidewalks and/or grass while waiting
No students will be in a parking lot unless accompanied by an adult
Students who ride a bus
·        Will follow a teacher to their designated exit
·        Will move quickly to their designated bus line
Parents
·        Parents will follow the traffic flow pattern and approach the school from the east and exit to the west.
·        Parents who carpool their students after school will only allow students to enter vehicles when they are located inside the pick-up/drop-off zone so that students are entering on the side of the road nearest to the school and never need to cross the road at carpool.  Please See the accompanying map
·        Parents can use parking lots for parking and coming into the school except during pick-up or drop off times.
·        Parents will always park outside of the pick-up drop-off zone no matter the reason for being at school, i.e. volunteering, assemblies, bringing something to the school etc.  Please See the accompanying map
·        Parents will remain in their vehicles so that traffic can continue to flow.
·        If a parent needs to exit a vehicle they will leave both the carpool lane and the pick-up/drop-off area before doing so.
·         All parents who park in a parking lot and are there at 2:45 will not be allowed to leave the parking lot until 3:00.
If you have students who need to meet up with siblings or neighborhood friends so they can walk together, please help them decide on a meeting spot outside so that they do not have to wander to find each other.
Team members
