Toys For Tots Collection

Dear Parents,

This year we are participating in Toys For Tots to help families that are in need this Christmastime. We would ask that if you would like to participate in this program that you would let your child bring in one dollar to help those families. We would appreciate it if you would donate but it is not required. The class in each grade that brings in the most money will get a cereal party.  You can donate more than one dollar if you would like.  For each dollar donated, your student will get their name on a paper train that is hung up in the hallway.  We will be collecting next week Monday - Friday, December 10th-14th.

Thanks again,

Lighthouse Leaders

Winter Concerns

Hello,

With Winter time upon us I would like to share a few things with you. Please send your students with coats to wear everyday. They will be going outside in weather from 20 Degrees  and above. They will likely be going outside to get some fresh air everyday. If your child has a medical need that would have them stay inside (such as asthma) we will have an alternative activity for them during lunch recess. Please let their teacher know. On green air quality days we will have students go outside, on yellow days those with medical needs will stay in, all students will stay in on red air quality days.  They can only stay inside for medical needs due to supervision.

Please talk to your children about sharing hats, combs, and having direct contact with each other with their heads, (leaning on each other, butting heads together,  etc.) as often this time of year we see an increase in lice. Lice happens, but the impact can be hurtful for students. So to protect students we ask that you help us be proactive in dealing with it. If your child does encounter nits (eggs) or lice, they need to be treated at home with lice killing formula (often found at your local drug store), once they have been treated and their hair combed through to remove the lice, they can return to school. This is often a 1 day treatment. I have included a myths and facts sheet to help us with how lice spread and the treatment that needs to take place.

Thank you,

Corynn Arehart

Recorder Order for 3rd & 4th Grade

As part of the district curriculum, 3rd & 4th grade students will learn to play the soprano recorder during their time in music.  The recorders we use are high quality Angel recorders that come with a blue storage bag, Halo hanger, and cleaner.

If you already have a soprano recorder, your student will be able to use it.  Please don’t purchase a cheap, plastic recorder from a dollar store, they are nothing but whistles and your student will become frustrated when they can’t make a pleasing sound with their recorder.

McKinley has a classroom set of recorders that students may use if unable to purchase a recorder – ALL students will learn to play the recorder.  Classroom recorders must remain in the classroom.

Mrs. Stewart uses the highly motivating Recorder Karate method of teaching recorders.  As students pass off a recorder song they receive a recorder “belt” to display on the end of their recorder.

Students will earn 7 belts with the final belt being the black belt.  If you already have a recorder you may order the BELTS for $4.00.  You may also use recorder belts you might have at home.

Please complete the order form and send payment with the form to the office by Friday, November 2nd.  We will only be ordering recorders one time this year.

It is $11.00 if you order one recorder (recorder, storage bag, Halo hanger, cleaner, and 7 Karate belts).

It is $4.00 if you have a recorder and only want to order the belts.

Please call the school with any questions.

Click HERE to open & print the order form to fill out and turn in.

Important Info Regarding Online Registration

Parents!!! This online registration is new for all of us and I have had many of you register which is great but we have had a few problems. If you have a Student who is NOT a Kindergarten student and were at our school last year then your child is not a NEW student. If you have never called to get your Student’s ID # to set up a Passport/Aspire account then you would choose to register as a current student without an Aspire account and it will ask you for their Student ID which if you don’t know, you will need to call and get it from us. If your student brought home any kind of end of year progress report, most likely their Student ID is on that but we can give that to you if you call. Leave a message if we don’t answer and we will get back to you.

IT YOU HAVE AN INCOMING KINDERGARTEN STUDENT AND HAVE TALKED TO ME AT THE SCHOOL THEN THEY ARE NOT CONSIDERED “NEW” AND YOU WILL NEED TO CALL AND GET THEIR ID FROM THE SCHOOL AND THEN REGISTER THEM AS A CURRENT STUDENT WITHOUT AN ASPIRE ACCOUNT. ***IF YOU ALREADY FILLED OUT PAPERWORK AT THE GETTING TO KNOW  YOU OR ANOTHER TIME FOR THE KINDERGARTENER THEN YOU WON'T HAVE TO DO THE ONLINE REGISTRATION THIS YEAR.

If you registered your student online as a NEW student and they attended McKinley last year or are a Kindergartner who I already put in the system then you will have to re-register them with their Student ID creating an Aspire account with that ID.

Please call is with any questions and thank you for being patient as we embark on this new online registration journey together!

Click HERE to go to the online registration instructions and link.  Please read through the instructions to help you with the registration process.

Principal Message

Hi everyone, I'm the new McKinley Elementary principal, my name is Corynn Arehart.

I'm so excited to be on this epic journey with you this year!! Mr. Chournos and I have worked many, many hours this Spring and Summer to help us have a smooth transition and to make sure I have the information I'll need to support all of you! To let you know a little bit about me, I have shared a quick video, as well as a little write up.

video coming soon.....

I hope to share McKinley Elementary's story this year through Facebook and Twitter. Please follow us on Facebook @ McKinley Elementary and on Twitter @ corynn_arehart and #unitedweleadmckinley20182019

Who is Corynn; I'm a military wife, I have been married for 24 years, and my husband is currently serving active duty in the Air force. He has been serving for 25 years now, we might be nearing retirement this year.... I was born and raised in Wisconsin, and then moved around between Chicago, Wisconsin, Maryland, and Georgia. We lived in Italy for 3 years and then transferred to Utah. I have lived in Utah with our children since October 2000. We have planted seeds and let the roots grow for our kids while my husband has toured all over the US and overseas. It was important for us to have our children have a place to call home. I currently live in Lewiston UT on a little hobby farm, we have dogs, chickens, goats, ducks, horses, cats, and lots of fun!! I have 3 children, 2 son-in-laws, and 1 grandchild, she just joined us 4 months ago, and we love her to pieces! My baby just turned 16 and is getting his license later this month. YIKES!! We are a rodeo, 4H, horse loving family, and when it's just to hot to ride horses, we play on our family boat. In the winter I love to snowmobile, snowshoe, and play outside. I'm trying to learn to quilt and sew, along with embroidery.

I have taught at BEHS for 9 years in Special Education, I taught math, team taught Elem. Algebra 1, language Arts, Study Skills, Social skills through Adaptive P.E., and World Civ. I then obtained my 1st maters degree in Curriculum and Instruction and then obtained my 2nd masters degree in Administration School Leadership. I have been a principal in BESD for 4 years.

I love working with students, parents, teachers, staff member and the community and can't wait to begin building new relationships with our Tremonton families!! I'm passionate about the Leader In Me and believe in the positive outcomes it creates for students to become their own leaders!! Every child deserves to learn the tools to help them in school, society and for life!!

Our vision this year at McKinley is to teach and show students how to use the 7 habits, how they are all leaders, and to do it in a collaborative process through unity.

Our theme this year is UNITED WE LEAD!!

I have an open door policy- please contact me anytime via email corynn.arehart@besd.net, my phone or texting 435-740-1315, or by calling the school directly.

I'd love to hear from you, please send me a shout out. As families how have you sharpened your saw and built family relationships this summer?

Please watch for more letters and updates as I believe in being transparent, having high communication with our families and community, and sharing our story! :)

Thank you everyone,
Corynn Arehart

McKinley School Fundraiser

McKinley School 2017-18 Fundraiser

The McKinley Elementary fundraiser kicked off today, Friday, April 6th and will end Friday, April 20th.  Instead of sending our students out selling various items, we’re asking for direct donations to the school. We are doing a Party Plus Fundraiser meaning that the whole school will be having a Read-a-thon Party on Wednesday, May 2nd to celebrate the money we will earn through the fundraiser but each class can earn added bonuses to their party depending on the average dollar amount per student brought in for each class.  The students know what the bonus items are for each level earned.  The money earned through this fundraiser goes directly to our school and will be used for supplies, chrome books, fieldtrips and items for the Leader in Me program at McKinley & staff support.  We really appreciate your support in helping raise funds for our school.

Please only ask for donations from people you know.  Don’t go door to door asking for donations to houses you don’t know who lives there.  Students must turn in this donation sheet with the donation envelope.  The student’s name should be clearly written on both the donation envelope and collection sheet.  Don’t limit yourself to one donation sheet, once this sheet is filled out, turn it in and take another one.  Our goal is to average $15 per student.  Make checks payable to McKinley School.

People can donate online as well.  Please click on the link below to take you to the donation page.  People can donate to more than one student in one transaction.  It has a place to put in the donation amount and when you push enter, it pops up a field where you can put the students name for that amount and then you would do the same in the next line if you are donating to another student.  Make sure to put the student’s name in so we can credit that student for the donation to help with their class bonuses for the party.

Please call the school with any questions!  THANK YOU!
